In general, Eastern Oregon is cold and dry in the winter and hot and dry in the summer. Temperatures can drop quickly in the mountains year-round, and even hot summer desert nights are cooler than you might expect. On the other hand, those wide-open skies mean lots of sun exposure. Always pack layers of clothing, warm jackets, sunhats and sunscreen, and plenty of water and food when you head out into eastern Oregon.
