Painted Hills

South of the Columbia River in Eastern Oregon, Wasco is a land of wheat fields, windmills and wild natural beauty.

Weathered barns and houses recall its place in pioneer history, when Oregon Trail travelers passed nearby. Modern-day explorers are drawn to Cottonwood Canyon State Park — with hiking, fishing, boating and camping on the scenic John Day River — and to White River Falls State Park, with a magnificent 90-foot cascade crashing into a large pool.
