Summer Fishtrap 2023
Take a weeklong writing workshop in your favorite genre: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, or short story, plus a virtual workshop. Each workshop is limited to no more than 13 participants, giving you the opportunity to build connections with a world-class instructor and your fellow writers. Throughout the week, we’ll bring the best of Summer Fishtrap to you through craft talks, discussions, open mics, and readings.
Summer Fishtrap is held at the historic Wallowa Lake Lodge which fills up quickly for this event. We recommend confirming your cabin or camp spot sooner than later. Call Wallowa Lake Lodge to reserve a room for the week at 541-432-9821 or contact The Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce to find lodging options to fit most any budget.
On the shores of glacial Wallowa Lake, historic Wallowa Lake Lodge is a peaceful retreat in Oregon's spectacular Wallowa Mountains. Like one of the great national park lodges, but without the crowds, the lodge offers wilderness hiking, fishing, boating and more, just steps from its front door.
Since 1923, the historic Wallowa Lake Lodge has offered a peaceful retreat at the head of the lake. Sit on the expansive back deck and enjoy the quiet view towards the back yard and the lake in the distance.
Walk out of the lodge into a virtual park, where towering Ponderosa pines and Douglas firs rise to the sky. Wallowa River flows through braided channels into Wallowa Lake next to the lodge, creating a rich landscape for wildlife. Mule deer roam the lawn daily, serene in a place they’ve known for millennia. Kokanee salmon turn the river red in late summer as they swim upstream to spawn. Just a short hike from the lodge, the Eagle Cap Wilderness begins, with both an aerial tram and trails to lead you past waterfalls and meadows to alpine peaks.
